卯酉鉄道の夜[1] 卯酉铁道之夜[1:1] Night on the East-West Railroad[1:2]
雨月[2]の先の見えない 形のない不安 雨霁月朦胧[2:1] 其前方是 隐匿而无形的不安 Beyond the misty Moon after the rains[2:2], lies an invisible, shapeless anxiety.
一人忘れ去られた彼方へ 我孤身前往那已然被遗忘的远方 I go towards the other side that has already been forgotten.
ひとひらの花びらで 成り立つ紙折りを 将以一片花瓣 做成的折纸 I lose the folded paper made from a single petal,
無くしてしまい 世界を迷う 遗落不见 随后迷失在世间 Then I also become lost in this world.

今は 如今 Now,
暗闇の中 于晦暗之中 Inside the darkness,
恋に落ちるような 我虽期待着某种 I’m hoping for something
そんな何かがほしいけど 犹如沉入爱河一般的事情 That feels like falling in love.
だけど 然而 However…

雨月の先に見える 形のある不安 雨霁月朦胧 其前方是 可见而有形的不安 Beyond the misty Moon after the rains, lies a visible, tangible anxiety.
一人忘れ去られた彼方へ 我孤身前往那已然被遗忘的远方 I go towards the other side that has already been forgotten.
ひとひらの花びらで 成り立つ世界を 将以一片花瓣 构成的世界 I burn to the ground the world that consists of a single petal,
燃やし尽くして 世界を憂う 燃烧殆尽 又对其倍感忧愁 Then I lament this world.

今は 如今 Now,
星空の下 于星空之下 Under the starry night,
眠りにつくような 我虽期待着某种 I’m hoping for an ending
そんな終わりがほしいけど 犹如步入梦乡一般的结局 That feels like falling asleep.
だけど 然而 However…

雨月の先の見えない 形のない不安 雨霁月朦胧[2:3] 其前方是 隐匿而无形的不安 Beyond the misty Moon after the rains[2:4], lies an invisible, shapeless anxiety.
一人忘れ去られた彼方へ 我孤身前往那已然被遗忘的远方 I go towards the other side that has already been forgotten.
ひとひらの花びらで 成り立つ銀河系 以一片花瓣 筑成的银河系 A Milky Way that consists of a single petal.
印刷された聖書[3]を求めて 我寻求着已经印刷好的圣经[3:1] I search for a readily-printed Bible[3:2].

雨月の先に見える 形のある不安 雨霁月朦胧 其前方是 可见而有形的不安 Beyond the misty Moon after the rains, lies a visible, tangible anxiety.
一人忘れられない彼方へ 我孤身前往那不会被遗忘的远方 I go towards the other side that shall never be forgotten,
ひとひらの花びらで 成り立つ紙折りを 将以一片花瓣 做成的折纸 I will use this folded paper made from a single petal,
切符代わりに 天の川まで[4] 作为车票 飞往银河[4:1] As my ticket to reach the Milky Way[4:2].

注 | Notes

  1. 卯酉鉄道の夜

    [中] 卯酉铁道之夜:

    曲名很明显是致敬日本作家宫泽贤治的著名童话作品《银河铁道之夜》,歌词中也有几处与小说有关的地方。莲子可能与宫泽贤治有关联,鉴于二者的帽子相似,以及宫泽贤治和小泉八云都是幻想作家。另外宫泽贤治创造了一个词「イーハトーブ」(Ihatov)来指自己心中的理想乡,某种意义上和幻想乡很相似。

[en] Night on the East-West Railroad:

The title is obviously a play on the famous Japanese fantasy novel Night on the Galactic Railroad by Kenji Miyazawa, and the lyrics also makes some references to the novel. Renko was speculated to be related to Miyazawa, due to the similarity in their hats, and the fact he is also a fantasy writer like Lafcadio Hearn (who Merry is related to). Furthermore, Miyazawa created a word イーハトーブ (Ihatov) to mean the utopia in his mindscape, which is somewhat similar to Gensokyo. ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎

  2. 雨月

    [中] 雨月有两个可能的解释:

    • 来自《雨月物语》。《雨月物语》是日本江户时代后期的读本代表作之一,作者为上田秋成。全书由九篇志怪小说构成。「雨月」一词来自于本书序中的句子「雨霁月朦胧之夜」。译者采用这一解释,故将「雨月」译作「雨霁月朦胧」。
    • 雨月也指中秋节时被雨云遮挡的满月,是一个秋季的季语。

[en] beyond the misty Moon after the rains:

The original lyrics 雨月 is read as “ugetsu”, and literally translates to “rain and moon”. There are two possible interpretation for this word:

    • From the title of 雨月物語 (Ugetsu Monogatari, literally “Tales of Moonlight and Rain”), a collection of nine supernatural tales by the Japanese author Ueda Akinari published in Edo era. The Ugetsu part comes from the phrase “beyond the misty Moon after the rains” in the prelogue of the book. I use this interpretation in my translation, so I used this phrase.
    • Ugetsu also means “the full Moon during Mid-Autumn Festival is obscured by rain clouds”, and is a kigo (season word).

  3. 印刷された聖書

    [中] 印刷好的圣经:

    《银河铁道之夜》里提到过印刷厂以及活字,也提到过圣经。
    可能指《古腾堡圣经》,西方第一本以活字印刷术出产成印刷品的主要书籍,它的产生标志着西方图书批量生产的开始。另外该曲所属专辑《Two-Tone》的 track 2 曲名正是《古腾堡的科学世纪》。

    [en] readily-printed Bible:

In Night on the Galactic Railroad, there are mentions to a printing house, moveable type, and the Bible.
This could also be referring to the Gutenberg Bible, the first major book printed using mass-produced movable metal type in Europe. It marked the start of the Gutenberg Revolution and the age of the printed book in the West. Also note that track 2 in the album Two-Tone is named Science Century of Gutenberg. ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎

  4. 切符

    [中] 车票:《银河铁道之夜》的主角焦班尼用叠纸片作为银河铁道的火车车票。

[en] ticket: In Night on the Galactic Railroad, the protagonist Giovanni used a folded piece of paper as his train ticket for the journey on the Galactic Railroad. ↩︎ ↩︎ ↩︎
